To IX-B4.. And one hell of an year!

Whatever happens, you always remember your first day in any given school, class, block, standard, ad infinitum.

My first day of the ninth grade is still crisp in my mind. Having never stepped into the IX – XII Block before in our lives, we (we being us ninth graders) only had an understanding of how things worked there from the tons of advice we got. Although all the information we got wasn’t true, we soon learnt how to separate the real advice (“Don’t get on the bad side of the teachers there on the first day itself… Some people there have really long memories.”) from the bogus ones (“Don’t visit the bathroom on the left corner… It’s haunted by the ghost of Michael Jackson.”).

But nothing could have prepared us for the first torture of the year that they had lined us up for: shuffling.

Having been in the same class for three years, we soon had an unbreakable bond between us. And now they were carting us off to our separate ways? No fair!

One by one we were called, and allotted different classes. As I stepped into IX B4, my “new” class, it was with a swelled up pang of disappointment: there were just three boys in that class whom I knew.

And with that, my anticipation of another fun filled year went down the drain.

Several questions plagued my mind: Why did the class have to be filled with kids who only spoke Urdu? Why couldn’t any of my friends be here? Why did Noufal Sir even shuffle the classes? Why? Why? WHY???

Little did I know how much I would hate moving away from that class I loathed so much back then.

Fast forward a year from that day, and all I can think about is how much I’m going to miss Zombie giving his “announcements”, Safi daring me to tear up someones worksheet, playing Hangman with Sujith while Shanawas Sir explains Biology, Taha holding a “fast-forwarded assembly”, playing football in front of the class, and all those millions and zillions of tiny things that made IX B4 so… So AWESOME!

As the results (and my final chance to see you guys as fellow classmates) approaches, I have to say guys… You really did make my day then, and if I wasn’t so appreciative then, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all.

To IX B4… The class that will go down in my memory as the best one that I ever had.
